The Spirit of Generosity
The spirit of generosity is a service character quality that has a desire, given by God – to serve and give of our time, our abilities, and our money – to be used daily. “As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace:” - 1 Peter 4:10
Not time, not abilities, nor money alone. God gives us all of these, to use to His glory, “…whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men.” - Colossians 3:23
What the Spirit of Generosity provides, “the church”:
Time – God gives us twenty-four hours to spend each day. What might we do with our time – committees, altar guild, usher, church council?
Abilities – Through life, God gives us talents and experiences. What might we do with our interests and experience abilities – repair, organize, yard and garden work, sing, paint, play an instrument, run the soundboard, help with video?
Money – God gives us an income to meet life’s needs and provide enjoyment. What might we do with our money –help pay current church bills, do mission outreach, provide ministry materials?
It is for our individual spiritual growth that the Bible calls us to: “freely you have received; freely give.” - Matthew 10:8
How is God calling us – you and me?
The word “tithe” literally means “tenth” or 10%. Tithing means giving ten percent of your income to God. We believe that all that we have or hope to have, comes from God. And so tithing is giving back to God what was His to begin with. Tithing is a reminder that God is the supplier of everything, and it teaches us to always put God first in our lives.
